First Alert Weather Day – Sunday
A First Alert Weather Day is in effect for tonight. Strong to severe thunderstorms are likely to develop and move through then, in some cases producing damaging wind gusts, 1″ diameter hail, and possibly an isolated tornado. Be prepared for storms to move in over southwest Kentucky and northwest Middle Tennessee between 8 pm Sunday and midnight Monday. Storms will slide eastward and reach Nashville, Gallatin, Franklin, Columbia, and Lawrenceburg between 10 pm Sunday and 4 am Monday. The severe threat time window for southern and southeastern Middle Tennessee is 11 pm Sunday to 5 am Monday. Make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather warnings. Avoid travel if at all possible when the storms are in your area. Especially heavy downpours will be likely causing ponding, poor visibility, and potentially brief flooding of poor drainage areas.
The first half of our day will be cloudy, mild, and humid with some isolated showers possible.
Some sunshine may develop Sunday afternoon boosting temperatures into the upper 70s. Most if not all of the afternoon will be dry for the Midstate.
Again, storms will move in at night, some likely becoming severe. Stay with the WSMV4 First Alert Weather Team as the storms approach and move through.
First Alert Weather Day – Wednesday
A First Alert Weather Day has been issued for Wednesday afternoon and evening. Strong to severe thunderstorms appear likely to develop over northwestern parts of our area. Damaging wind gusts, hail, and isolated tornadoes will all be possible. Some of these storms will slide southeastward Wednesday night, and then likely get hung up around the Nashville area before retreating northwestward again.
Wednesday looks windy and warm. Low, 57. High, 84.
Safety Tips During Severe Weather
- Stay Informed: Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, including a weather radio, TV, and smartphone alerts.
- Seek Shelter: During a tornado warning, go to a basement, storm cellar, or interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
- Avoid Travel: If possible, avoid being on the road during severe weather events.
- Be Aware of Flooding: Heavy downpours can lead to flash flooding. Be cautious of flooded areas.
- Secure Outdoor Objects: Bring in any outdoor furniture, decorations, or anything that could become airborne in strong winds.
